The volume of loans issued by Georgian commercial banks in June 2020 decreased by 383.61 million lari ($125.2 million) or by 1.12 percent compared to May 2020 and constituted 33.80 billion lari ($11.03 billion) by July 1, 2020, Trend reports via National Bank of Georgia (NBG).
In the reporting period, the volume of loans in national currency increased by 195.12 million lari ($63.6 million) and the volume of loans in foreign currency decreased by 578.73 million lari ($188.9 million) or by 2.91 percent in the same period.
By the end of June 2020, the total volume of national currency denominated loans to resident legal entities issued by commercial banks amounted to 4.46 billion lari ($1.4 billion), and foreign currency denominated loans constituted 11.82 billion lari ($3.8 billion).
During June 2020, the volume of lending to household sector increased by 0.06 percent or 9.39 million lari ($3.06 million), and constituted 16.71 billion lari ($5.4 billion) by July 1, 2020.
As of July 1 2020, the banking sector in Georgia is represented by 15 commercial banks, including 14 - foreign-controlled banks.
In June 2020, compared to the previous month, the total assets of Georgian commercial banks (in current prices) decreased by 172.84 million lari ($56.4 million) and constituted 49.28 billion lari ($16.08 billion). The banking sector's equity capital is 5.20 billion lari ($1.6 billion), which makes up 10.56 percent of the commercial banks total assets.
