Uzbek banks to postpone loan repayment

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Sept. 8

By Klavdiya Romakayeva - Trend:

Due to the coronavirus pandemic banks of Uzbekistan postponed payment of loans for 26.5 trillion soums ($2.58 billion) until October 1, Trend reports referring to Central Bank of Uzbekistan.

“About 65 percent of all business entities with loans use this privilege. At the same time, the banks did not refuse to fulfill their obligations on deposits,” said Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank Behzod Khamroev during today's briefing in Tashkent.

Since the beginning of the year, under the “Every family is an entrepreneur” program it was planned to allocate four trillion soums ($390 million) from repaid loans.

However, due to the postponement of payments on loans for the implementation of the program, an additional two trillion soums ($195 million) were allocated at the expense of state reserves.

“For 8 months of this year, under this program, 3.9 trillion soums ($380 million) of loans were issued to the population. By the end of the year, this figure should grow to 5.5 trillion soums ($536 million),” the deputy chairman of the Central Bank summed up.
