Azerbaijan sees decline in maritime goods export

The volume of maritime export of goods from Azerbaijan amounted to 201,653 tons over the first eight months of 2020, Trend reports citing the State Customs Committee (SCC).

According to the committee, from January through August 2020, the mentioned figure declined by 12.2 percent compared to the same period of 2019. At the same time, the export volume of products by sea slumped by 64.6 percent, making up $63.9 million.

In total, Azerbaijan carried out maritime cargo transportation in the reporting period by 83.5 percent less than a year earlier. In monetary terms, eight-month maritime cargo handling amounted to $340.3 million.

During the reporting period, the volume of cargo transportation by sea amounted to 591,459 tons, showing an annual decrease of 74.1 percent, said the SCC.

"The import of goods by sea during the mentioned eight months amounted to 389,805 tons. In monetary terms, this indicator made up $276.4 million, which slumped by 88 percent over the year," the committee noted.

From January through August 2020, Azerbaijan's foreign trade turnover amounted to $16.6 billion, which is 38 percent less compared the same period of 2019.
