Head of the the Statistical Centre of Iran Javad Hossein Zadeh said that anyone familiar with the process of calculating inflation rates, both inside and outside the country, knows that it is impossible to manipulate this data, Trend reports via ILNA.
"I have been working in the Statistical Center for 20 years, and in no way, none of the statistics have ever been manipulated,” Hossein Zadeh said.
He went on to say that it is a long process to prepare and publish statistics, as before the data reaches the head of the center, it goes through some 40 people.
He stressed that if two different organizations provide specific data on the same occasion, the difference in statistics will reduce the trust in both organizations.
Regarding the suggestion of some experts to change the base year of inflation to bring inflation numbers closer to reality, he said that the Price index is affected by important factors such as price, price ratio, importance coefficient and base year.
"The base year make possible to compare the price of the consumer basket in different periods, so that the elements of basket should be kept constant and not change,” he said.
