ADB allocates funds to Georgia for water supply sector

BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 16

Finance Minister of Georgia Ivane Machavariani and Director of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Resident Office in Georgia Shane Rosenthal signed an agreement between Georgia and the Asian Development Bank on the “Program for Sustainable Development of the Water Supply and Sewerage Sector”, Trend reports via the Ministry of Finance of Georgia.

According to the ministry, within the framework of the program, the ADB will allocate financial resources in the amount of 115.3 million euros.

This is a budget support loan and the amount goes directly to the budget. The program also includes an investment component with a funding volume of 17.7 million euros.

The goal of the program is to improve the management and institutional capacity of the water supply and sanitation sector.

The project includes strengthening the urban water supply and sanitation sector, improving the efficiency and management of the United Water Supply Company of Georgia. As for the investment component, the program provides for the rehabilitation of the water supply system in Telavi city.
