Azerbaijan's Central Bank unveils data on foreign exchange transactions over March 2021

Cash exchange operations in Azerbaijan were carried out mainly in US dollars, British pounds, euros, and Russian rubles in March 2021, Trend reports with reference to the statistical report of the Central Bank (CBA).

During the specified period, local banks purchased $120.6 million and sold $133.4 million, the CBA report reads.

As reported, the purchase of dollars by banks in March 2021 increased by 40 percent compared to March 2020, while sales decreased by 88.5 percent.

“Also, in the reporting month, banks purchased 792,700 British pounds, which is 37.5 percent less compared to the same month of last year. At the same time, banks sold British currency for 545,600 pounds, a decrease of 83.2 percent in annual terms,” the report said.

Also, during this period, local banks purchased 4.98 million euros (a decrease of 1.5 times in annual terms) and sold - 11.2 million euros (a decrease of 1.8 times).

In March, Azerbaijani banks purchased over 1.23 billion Russian rubles, which is 29.5 percent more than a year earlier, and sold 182.5 million Russian rubles (a decrease of 57.6 percent).
