By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

About 6.9 million checks worth 1.48 quadrillion rials (about $35.2 billion) were exchanged in Iran in the 1st month of the current Iranian year (March 21 through April 20, 2021), Trend reports citing the Central Bank of Iran.

According to the statistics, the exchanged checks decreased by 27.8 percent in terms of number and by 42.7 percent in terms of value compared to the 12th month of the last Iranian year (February 19, 2020, through March 20, 2021).

"The checks exchanged in the 1st month were mainly registered in Iran’s Tehran Province (27.9 percent in terms of number, 45.2 percent in terms of value), Isfahan Province (10.6 percent in terms of number, 7.1 percent in terms of value), Razavi Khorasan Province (8 percent in terms of number, 6 percent in terms of value)," the statistics said.

According to the statistics, 6.4 million checks worth 1.32 quadrillion rials (about $31.4 billion) were received in Iran in the 1st month. This is a decrease of 41.8 percent in terms of number and 28 percent in terms of value compared to the 12th month.

The CBI noted that about 569,000 checks worth 158 trillion rials (about $3.76 billion) were returned in the 1st month.

The returned checks decreased by 25.4 percent in terms of number and by 49.3 percent in terms of value compared to the 11th month.

The reason for the return of checks is the lack of available funds or a deficit. Thus, 549,000 checks worth 146 trillion rials (about $3.47 billion) were returned to Iran for these reasons.

"The checks 96.5 percent in terms of number and 92.4 in terms of value were returned due to lack of available funds or deficit," the statistics said.
