Azerbaijan sees decrease in lending volume to agriculture

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 19

The volume of lending to agriculture and forestry, as well as the fishing sector in Azerbaijan as of early June 2021 decreased by 2.8 percent compared to the same period of 2020, the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) told Trend.

In accordance with the reports, the volume of lending to this sector equaled 566.3 million manat ($333.1 million).

Some 503 million manat ($295.9 million) or 88.8 percent of the total lending volume to the sector accounted for the long-term loans. The loans worth 380.8 million manat ($223.5 million) were issued in national currency while in foreign currency - 122.2 million in manat equivalent ($71.9 million).

Some 33.2 million manat ($19.5 million) or about six percent of the total lending volume to the sector accounted for short-term loans. The loans worth 28.5 million manat ($16.8 million) of that volume were issued in national currency while in foreign currency - 4.7 million in manat equivalent ($2.8 million).

The loans were mainly issued to the private sector and most often in the national currency, which amounted to 72.3 percent (409.3 million manat $240.8 million) of the total lending volume to the sector.

The share of lending to the agricultural sector in lending to the real sector amounted to 3.8 percent (decline of 0.1 percentage points compared to the same period of 2020).

In general, the volume of lending to the real sector of the Azerbaijani economy during the first five months of 2021 amounted to 15.07 billion manat ($8.9 billion), which is by 301.4 million manat ($177.3 million) or two percent more than in the same period of last year.
