Azerbaijan records decline in average number of payment terminal users

The average number of users per payment terminal in Azerbaijan, including ATMs and POS terminals, decreased in the first half of 2021, the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) told Trend.

According to the CBA, this indicator made up 3,940 people, down by 33 people on annual basis.

At the same time, the average monthly amount of transactions per ATM reached 681,200 manat or $400,710 (3,042 transactions), having risen by seven percent year on year.

“The average monthly amount of one transaction through an ATM in the specified period amounted to 223.9 manat ($131.7), and the average monthly amount of transactions through one POS terminal – 6,780 manat or $3,990 (for 144 transactions). The average monthly value of one transaction through a POS terminal amounted to 47 manat ($27.6),” the bank said.

“As of early July 2021, 2,804 ATMs operated in Azerbaijan, of which 1,479 operated in Baku, 1,325 - in other cities and districts of the country. The number of ATMs increased by 9.1 percent compared to the same period of 2020,” the CBA noted.

The number of POS terminals in the reporting period amounted to 60,150 units, of which 39,827 units were installed in Baku, 20,323 - in other cities and districts of Azerbaijan. Their number increased by 4,519, or 8.1 percent on annual basis.
