Georgia sees increase in remittances flow from abroad

Remittances flow from abroad in August 2021, increased by 11.2 percent in comparison with the same period of 2020 and amounted to $205 million, Trend reports via the National Bank of Georgia.

In the last 2 months, money transfers transferred by emigrants from abroad to Georgia exceeded the volume of foreign investments by 13 percent. At the same time, in the last 3 months, the volume of investments increased by 7.5 percent compared with the same period of 2020.

Russia with $37.7 million leads in terms of volume of transfers, however, its share in the volume of transfers decreased from 19 percent in 2020 to 18.4 percent.

The second place is taken by Italy with $33.6 million, followed by the US - 24.6 million, Germany - $10.1 million.

From January through August 2021, the volume of transfers to Georgia from abroad amounted to $1.496 billion that is 31 percent and 354 million more than in the same period of 2020, and 35 percent or 389 million more than in the same period of 2019.

From January through August, the volume of money transfers from Georgia to abroad increased by 45 percent to $192 million.
