The turnover on payment cards through ATMs and POS terminals in Azerbaijan increased by 869 million manat ($511.1 million) or 35.8 percent from January through September 2021, from 2.42 to 3.29 billion manat ($1.42 billion-$1.93 billion), Trend reports referring to the statistical report of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).
According to the report, the total number of transactions on payment cards amounted to 31.2 million (an increase of 53.9 percent over the year), including 3.69 million transactions worth 179 million manat ($105.3 million) were carried out abroad.
“Over the reporting period, 27.4 million transactions worth 3.06 billion manat ($1.8 billion) were carried out on debit cards (both within the country and abroad), of which 8.35 million transactions worth 1.91 billion manat ($1.12 billion) were carried out through ATMs inside the country, and through POS terminals within the country – 7.2 million transactions worth 337 million manat ($198.2 million),” the CBA said.
“With credit cards (both within the country and abroad), bank customers carried out 4.3 million transactions totaling 232 million manat ($136.4 million). At the same time, 385,000 transactions worth 61 million manat ($35.8 million) were carried out through ATMs within the country, and 2.25 million transactions for 95 million manat ($55.8 million) - through POS terminals,” according to the report of the Central Bank.
From January through September 2021, the number of payment cards in Azerbaijan increased by 1.46 million units or 16.3 percent on annual basis and exceeded 10.4 million. A year earlier, this figure was 8.96 million units.
