Trend:

The total assets of Kazakhstan’s banking sector amounted to 35.6 billion tenge ($83.4 million) as of October 1, 2021, Trend reports with reference to the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Regulation and Development of Financial Market.

Thus, the total assets increased in September by 1.3 percent (an increase of 14.5-percent since early 2021) mainly due to the increase in bank loans by 3.5 percent (an increase of 14.5-percent since early 2021) and deposits in other banks by 19.2 percent (an increase of 7.4-percent since early 2021).

The second-tier banks have a big volume of highly liquid assets, amounting to about 12.2 billion tenge ($28.6 million) or 34.2 percent of assets.

Free liquidity allows banks to completely fulfill their obligations.

The liabilities of the banking sector increased by 1.7 percent in September 2021 (an increase of 14.7-percent since early 2021), mainly due to the increase in customer deposits by 2.3 percent (an increase of 16.3-percent since early 2021).

The number of liabilities to non-residents decreased by 84.5 billion tenge ($198.02 million) or 6.8 percent in September 2021 as a result of which the share of liabilities to non-residents decreased from 4.1 percent to 3.7 percent of the total liabilities of the banking sector.

The structure of the liabilities of the banking sector mainly includes the deposit portfolio, accounting for 80.4 percent of the total liabilities of banks or 25.08 billion tenge ($58.8 million).

The share of other liabilities, such as the issued securities and loans received from other banks and organizations carrying out certain types of banking operations, amounted to 5.1 percent and 2.0 percent, respectively.

The banking sector has a big capital stock as of Oct. 1, 2021.

The capital adequacy ratio (k1) is 20.3 percent, the capital adequacy ratio (k2) is 25.0 percent, which on average greatly exceeds the standards outlined by the law.

The banks' net profit decreased by 12.1 billion tenge ($28.3 million) as of late September 2021 as a result of the merger of Kazakhstan’s ATFBank JSC with Jusan Bank JSC.

The net profit amounted to 924.9 billion tenge ($2.2 million) as of Oct. 1, 2021, which is by 55 percent more than as of Oct. 1, 2020.
