Kazakhstan sees growth in money transfers abroad

BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 4

Total volume of money transfers through international money transfer systems amounted to 1.3 trillion tenge ($2.7 billion) in 2021, Trend reports via National Bank of Kazakhstan.

Number of transactions reached about 4.3 million, which is an increase of 21 percent, compared to 2020.

Volume of money transfers from Kazakhstan abroad increased by 28.3 percent and from abroad to Kazakhstan - by 1.2 percent. Volume of money transfers within the country increased by 35.4 percent and amounted to 70.4 billion tenge ($143 million).

Volume of money transfers sent from Kazakhstan abroad through the international money transfer systems amounted to 1 trillion tenge ($2 billion) in 2021. Main share of money transfers abroad falls on Uzbekistan (29.5 percent), Turkey (20.9 percent), Russia (17.5 percent), Kyrgyzstan (14.3 percent).

Kazakhstan received 283.5 billion tenge ($575.8 million) from abroad during the same period.

Money transfers to Kazakhstan were mainly carried out from Russia (18.7 percent), Uzbekistan (17.6 percent), South Korea (14 percent), Kyrgyzstan (12 percent) and the US (11.8 percent).

There are eight international money transfer systems operating in Kazakhstan (Zolotaya Korona, Western Union, Unistream, Contact, Faster, MoneyGram and others) as of January 1, 2022.
