Iran faces high inflation amid economic challenges

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 27. The monthly inflation rate in Iran increased by 54.6 percent in the 2nd month of the current Iranian year (April 21 through May 21, 2023), compared to the same month in the last year, Trend reports.

This shows that families spent an average of 54.6 percent more on products and services in the 2nd month of the current Iranian year compared to the same month in the last year.

During the second month, the monthly inflation in prices of food, soft drinks, and tobacco products in Iran was 75.4 percent, while in the non-food and services sector was 45.1 percent.

At the same time, the monthly inflation rate in Iran for the 2nd month decreased by 0.9 percent compared to the 1st month of the current Iranian year (March 21 through April 20, 2023).

Within the 2nd month, the monthly inflation rate in Iranian cities was 53.6 percent. This is 0.9 percent less than in the 1st month.

Meanwhile, in villages in Iran, the monthly inflation rate was 60.3 percent for the 2nd month. This is a decrease of 0.7 percent compared to the 1st month.

The annual inflation rate in the country (May 21, 2022 through May 21, 2023), was 49.1 percent. This is an increase of 1.5 percent compared to the previous period (May 22, 2021 through May 21, 2022).

At the end of the 2nd month of the current Iranian year, the annual inflation rate was 48.2 percent in Iranian cities, while - 54.5 percent in villages.
