ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, August 5. The total volume of deposits of the population in banks of Turkmenistan as of June 1 of this year amounted to 2.92 billion Turkmen manats ($835.82 million), Trend reports.
According to the Central Bank of Turkmenistan, these figures are 3.5 percent more than on the same date last year (2.82 billion Turkmen manats or $807.19 million).
Of the total volume of deposits of the population, state-owned commercial banks accounted for 1.77 billion Turkmen manats ($506.64 million), which remained unchanged as of June 1 last year (1.77 billion Turkmen manats).
Meanwhile, the deposits of the population in joint-stock commercial banks of Turkmenistan amounted to more than 1.15 billion Turkmen manats ($329.17 million), which is 9.5 percent more than on the same date last year (1.05 billion Turkmen manats or $300.55 million).
Turkmenistan's financial sector is constantly expanding. Mobile applications, in particular, are being created to pay for various services and items, the number of transactions is increasing, and payment methods are being made available through bank payment terminals.
