BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 22. The turnover of payment cards through ATMs and POS terminals increased by 3 billion manat (64 percent, or $1 billion) from 5 billion ($2 billion) to 8 billion manat ($4 billion) over the year in Azerbaijan, as of August 1, 2023, Trend reports.
According to the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA), the total number of payment card transactions amounted to 111 million (an increase of 113 percent over the year), including 5 million transactions worth 316 million manat ($185 million) carried out abroad.
Debit card transactions totaled 101 million, totaling 7 billion manat ($4 billion), both within and outside the country. Of these, 14 million transactions, totaling 3 billion manat ($1 billion), were made at ATMs within the nation, and 34 million transactions, totaling 722 million manat ($424 million), were made at POS terminals.
Bank clients used credit cards for 8 million transactions worth 463 million manat ($272 million) on both domestic and international credit cards.
t the same time, 556,000 transactions in the amount of 115 million manat ($67 million) were carried out through ATMs within the country, and 5 million transactions in the amount of 191 million manat ($112 million) were carried out using POS terminals.
The number of payment cards in Azerbaijan as of August 1, 2023, increased by 2 million, or 19 percent, year-on-year and reached 15 million, compared to 12 million a year earlier.
