BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 2. Azerbaijan's payment card turnover through ATMs and POS terminals increased by 2.66 billion manat ($1.56 billion), or 35.28 percent, from 7.55 billion manat ($4.44 billion) to 10.2 billion manat ($6 billion) in May 2024 over the year, Trend reports.
The Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) data shows that 155.7 million payment card transactions, including 5.27 million foreign transactions amounting to 263 million manat ($154.7 million), were totally conducted during the reporting month, up 56 percent compared to May 2023.
Furthermore, the number of debit card transactions (both inside and outside the country) amounted to almost 142.9 million for 9.5 billion manat ($5.6 billion), of which more than 14.8 million transactions worth over 3.37 billion manat ($1.98 billion) were made through ATMs inside the country and almost 45.2 million transactions worth 791 million manat ($465.3 million) were made through POS terminals inside the country.
Within and outside of the country, 12.83 million transactions worth 701 million manat ($412.3 million) were processed by clients using credit cards.
Meanwhile, 526,000 transactions worth 127 million manat ($74.7 million) were made through ATMs inside the country, while 6.3 billion transactions worth 175 million manat ($102.9 million) were made through POS terminals.
To note, the number of payment cards in Azerbaijan increased by 3.12 million, or 21.21 percent, as of June 1, 2024, compared to the same period last year and reached 17.86 million against 14.74 million a year earlier.
