BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 9. SOCAR's drilling company, SOCAR AQS may drill geothermal wells in Azerbaijan for the first time, Trend reports via SOCAR AQS.
"We had previously drilled geothermal wells in Türkiye to a depth of 400 meters, with temperatures reaching 260 degrees Celsius. Similar works existed in Romania as well. Meanwhile, in Azerbaijan, we are preparing for the first time to drill in areas where geothermal sources are available," Mollayev noted at the conference in Baku.
According to him, in Azerbaijan, such works can typically be carried out in the Kalbajar region and Nakhchivan.
To note, there are many thermal sources in Azerbaijan, particularly in the mountains of the Lesser and Greater Caucasus, the Absheron Peninsula, Lankaran, Karabakh, and Nakhchivan, and their utilization is in line with the Azerbaijani government's strategy to create a "green" economy.
SOCAR and its divisions actively pursue green projects and meet their environmental responsibilities.
