BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 17. Czech representatives are looking forward to attending the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Baku in November, Director for Energy Strategy and International Cooperation at the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade, Petr Binhak told Trend.

"We support this process. We are open to discussing ambitious, nationally determined contributions (NDCs) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Defining NDCs and following the process should help us achieve our ultimate goal of carbon neutrality by 2050," Binhak noted.

He elaborated by saying that up until 2030, the Czech Republic would have national energy and climate plans in place, as well as a national strategy for analyzing and adopting these plans.

"The plans that we are developing essentially serve as roadmaps for achieving our climate and energy goals by 2030 and 2050. The ultimate goal is to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050," Binhak said.

The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement signed at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992 to prevent dangerous human interference in the climate system. The acronym COP (Conference of Parties) stands for Conference of Parties, which is the highest legislative body overseeing the implementation of the Framework Convention on Climate Change. A total of 198 countries are parties to the convention. Unless the parties decide otherwise, COP is held annually. The first COP event was held in March 1995 in Germany's Berlin, with its secretariat in Bonn.
