BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 2. The Baku International Sea Trade Port (BISTP) has shaken hands with the UN Global Compact program to take their collaboration to the next level, especially in the realm of sustainable development initiatives, a source in BISTP told Trend.

"BISTP is a member of the UN Global Compact in Azerbaijan and ranks with the leaders of this program in the country. Recently, we held an event with the UN Global Compact titled 'Sustainable Development Goals and COP29 Opportunities in Azerbaijan and discussed BMTP's climate commitments," the source pointed out.

The source drove home the importance of corporate sustainability and port management's role in fighting climate change.

"Representatives of the UN Global Compact in Azerbaijan, as well as experts from the World Bank and AmCham (the American Chamber of Commerce), noted BMTP's progress in sustainable development," the source emphasized.

To note, the port has obtained a green port certificate from UN structures and has set ambitious goals to achieve zero carbon dioxide emissions by 2035.
