BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 19. COP29 President and Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, Mukhtar Babayev, has sent the first official letters to the governments of COP29 member states with the objectives of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, Trend reports.
He made the announcement in Baku during the presentation of the Action Plan of Azerbaijan's COP29 Presidency.
The letters note that the achievement of a global agreement on a new climate finance target will be the main point of negotiations at the upcoming 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
Furthermore, the official letters urge member governments of the Paris Climate Agreement (198 countries in the world) to submit updated national climate plans to limit global warming to 1.5°C.
“Defining a New Collective Quantified Goal on Climate Finance (NCQG) will also be a priority issue at COP29. It is necessary to agree on an ambitious and realistic climate finance target, taking into account the needs and priorities of developing countries that are parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change,” Babayev noted.
