BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 30. Azerbaijan sustainable built environment leadership roundtable took place in Baku, Trend reports.

The roundtable is a special high-level meeting of leading industry leaders in Azerbaijan, including CEOs, ministers, UAE construction companies, the President of COP29, and the UN High-Level Champion for COP29.

This unique event will boost cooperation and sustainable development in Azerbaijan's construction sector, providing a platform to discuss challenges, explore opportunities, and define favorable policies.

The roundtable emphasizes the crucial role of green construction in achieving global climate goals and, marking an important milestone on the road to COP29, lays the foundation for targeted business operations and cooperation with significant results for Azerbaijan and beyond.

Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Mukhtar Babayev said that hosting COP29 in Azerbaijan is a great opportunity for the country and all of us.

“COP29 will enable us to show the world the goals we have achieved and our future projects. As a leading country in the region, Azerbaijan will show its leadership in solving climate problems around the world.

We visited most countries with our team and saw how great the interest in this process is. We would like our country, as always, to move forward in this matter, setting an example for the whole world,” Babayev added.

He also noted that construction companies need take steps to prevent air pollution.

"Construction activities lead to air pollution, negatively affecting human health. How can we reduce this? What innovations can we introduce? We need to think about them.

We need to get results without signing any statements, and by doing so, we must get out of the supervision system. Each company must take responsibility and take steps,” he emphasized.

Chairman of the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture of Azerbaijan Anar Guliyev stated that efforts are underway to create a green energy zone in Azerbaijan's liberated territories.

“Azerbaijan is proving its commitment to combating global climate change by chairing COP29.

In the construction industry, we are implementing a number of measures related to digitalization and environmental protection. The installation of a rooftop solar energy system was shortly approved,” he added.

A declaration on “Azerbaijan Sustainable Built Environment Leadership” has been signed during the roundtable.

The declaration was signed by several members of the COP29 Organizing Committee and the heads of several construction companies operating in Azerbaijan.

The purpose of the declaration is to show that construction companies are aware of their responsibility to reduce emissions.

The declaration is the first step in this direction, and then there will be a transition from the stage of awareness of responsibility to practical activity.
