BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 1. Türkiye may introduce its own carbon dioxide emissions trading system similar to the one implemented in the European Union (EU), Trend reports via the International Carbon Action Partnership.
Testing of the Turkish scheme can begin in October 2024.
Türkiye's use of an emissions trading system, similar to the EU's Emissions Trading System (ETS), is particularly connected to the fact that ships entering European ports from outside the EU will be taxed on emissions, and Türkiye wants to follow the international 'green' development direction.
To note, the country also has an ambitious strategy for creating renewable energy sources.
