BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 9. Development of a “green” economy will positively affect employment issues in Azerbaijan in the medium and long term, the head of the secretariat of the National Coordination Council for Sustainable Development, head of the department of the Ministry of Economy Huseyn Huseynov said, Trend reports.
He made the remark at the conference “The Role of Small and Medium Businesses in the Green Economy” held in Baku.
“The Strategy “Azerbaijan 2030: National Priorities of Socio-Economic Development” reflects the intention to turn the country into a country of “green growth”. Small and medium-sized enterprises can certainly contribute to this, including through decarbonization of their facilities. Also, employment of the population can grow,” Huseynov noted.
According to him, employment affects the gross domestic product (GDP).
“The World Bank believes that climate change can reduce global GDP by 1.5–3 percent by 2050. This is quite a serious figure, and the reduction in GDP leads to a decrease in economic activity in the world. This will manifest itself in employment, in the factor of increased risk of poverty. These problems will be discussed at COP29,” he added.
