ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, October 16. The Turkmen delegation has explored cutting-edge technologies for effective participation in global carbon trading at a workshop in Istanbul ahead of COP29, Trend reports via the official Turkmen media.

The media reported that the issue came to light when representatives from Turkmenistan's Ministry of Environmental Protection attended a capacity-building seminar in Istanbul for national delegations of the member countries of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

The Istanbul meeting discussed key climate agenda topics, mechanisms for climate change mitigation, and climate finance.

Turkmenistan ratified Article 6 of the Paris Agreement on Climate in 2016, and it plays a significant role in international efforts to reduce emissions and establish global carbon markets.

The sessions also discussed the outcomes of recent reports from the UN Environment Program on mitigation and adaptation, as well as the results of COP28 and the priorities for COP29.

Turkmenistan's participation in such discussions strengthens the country's position on the international stage and helps align global initiatives with national climate change priorities.

This November, Azerbaijan will host COP29. This decision was made at the COP28 plenary meeting held in Dubai on December 11 last year. Baku will become the center of the world and will receive about 70–80,000 foreign guests.

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement signed at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992 to prevent dangerous human interference with the climate system. COP—the Conference of the Parties—is the highest legislative body overseeing the implementation of the Framework Convention on Climate Change. There are 198 countries that are parties to the Convention. Unless the parties agree otherwise, the COP is held annually. The first COP event took place in March 1995 in Germany's Berlin with its secretariat in Bonn.
