BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 6. Azerbaijan follows right path to implementing ESG (Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance) standards, regional expert on ESG at the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Boris Janjalia said at the conference "For sustainable development of Azerbaijan: presentation of the Unified Platform and National Standard for ESG" in Baku today, Trend reports.
"Azerbaijan is on the right path in implementing ESG standards. Environmental, social, and corporate governance remains a challenge for many countries, especially in our region, where developing countries face additional difficulties.
However, we also have the opportunity to get it right. Platforms like this [the Unified ESG Platform in Azerbaijan] play a crucial role - they promote education, capacity building, and provide open access to resources.
At times, we are deficient in essential information. Such initiatives provide access to ESG data and facilitate the exchange of perspectives at conferences like today's. This endeavor is significant, as awareness and capacity building are fundamental for the advancement of any notion. I appreciate everyone's support for this cause," noted Janjalia.
To note, Baku is hosting a conference titled “For sustainable development of Azerbaijan: presentation of the Unified Platform and National Standard on Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG)”.
The event sees the attendance of Sadig Gurbanov, the chairman of the Committee on Natural Resources, Energy and Ecology of the Azerbaijani Parliament, along with Vladanka Andreeva, UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan, and a host of other officials.
