World Bank & Azerbaijani Communication and IT Ministry Name Grant Recipients in Information Technology Sphere in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. S.Babayeva / The Azerbaijani Communication and Information Technology Ministry and the World Bank signed an agreement for seven grants for the information technology sector on 1 October.

The grant contest was considered for NGOs registered at the Justice Ministry. The grant proposals included introduction of new information technology, reforms in education and health spheres, clarity in budget and anti corruption, integration of youth into society, social protection, as well as a reduction of the poor and protection of human rights.

These projects play an important role for implementation of huge projects within the framework of the State Electric Azerbaijan program, Rufat Gulmammadov, the head of the Department on Development of Information Society at the Azerbaijani Communication and IT Ministry, said.

The protocol on Information Society was signed between the bank and the Communication and IT Ministry in March 2007. The participation share of the Ministry is $15,000 and the World Bank, $34,000. Some $5,000 to $7,000 has been allocated for implementation of each project.
