Consultant to be Attracted to Project on Construction of Caspian Underwater Segment of Optical Cable Main – "Trans-Asia-Europe"

Azerbaijan, Baku, 31 January /corr. Trend S.Babayeva / Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan are holding talks on necessity of attracting a consultation company to the project on the construction of the Caspian Underwater Segment of the Optical Cable Main - "Trans-Asia-Europe" (TAE), said the Head of Center of Accounts and International Relations of Azerbaijan's Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies, Jalil Jafarov, said, Rabita Dunyasi newspaper reported.

"The consultant will be selected for preparing feasibility study for the construction of the cable," he said.

Feasibility study includes searching demand and efficiency of the construction of the line in region.

The planned route will pass via the district of Siyazan ( Azerbaijan) and Aktau ( Kazakhstan).

The cost of the cable constructed via the seabed is approximately $10mln. The closing cost will be determined during tender and feasibility study.

A memorandum was signed between the operators of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. According to the document, the expenses will be covered equally by both parties.

The length of the TAE section between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan is 380km. At the present time the route runs via Turkmenistan and Iran beyond the territory of Azerbaijan.

The Azerbaijani Ministry considers that realizing the project will be a real accomplishment because as a result, the route will be decreased by 2000km and it will accelerate the traffic of information transmission.
