Internet Improvement Coordination Council Developing Recommendations on Cutting Prices for Internet Access

Azerbaijan, Baku, 23 April / Trend corr S. Babayeva/ In May, the Coordination Council on Development of Internet, attached to the Azerbaijani Communications and IT Ministry, will submit to the operators and provider companies a set of recommendations on cutting of prices for internet access in the country, the Ministry reported.

"Presently, the recommendations are being developed and they have only consultative effect," the Ministry reported.

The decision to design the recommendations was taken at the Council's meeting in March.

At present, 1 Mb/sec of broadband internet in Azerbaijan costs $700, in Armenia some $4,000, in Kazakhstan $3,000 and in Russia ( Moscow) $50.

There are 30 internet providers in Azerbaijan, with 2 of them being state-run companies.

According to the Communications Ministry, the number of internet users in Azerbaijan totals 1mln approximately.
