Azerbaijan Most Ambitious Country for Establishment of Trans-National Eurasian High-Speed Information Line

Azerbaijan, Baku, 11 November /corr. Trend S.Babayeva / "New project on construction of the Trans-national Eurasian high-speed information line, which will cover nearly 20 countries (from the states of Eastern Europe to China), will be established based on the Trans-Asia-Europe fibre-optic cable main (ТАЕ)," Ali Abbasov, Azerbaijani Minister of Communications & Information Technologies, said at the meeting of the ministers within the 14th Azerbaijan International Telecommunications and Information Technologies BakuTel-2008 Exhibition on 11 November.

"With the realization of this project, extensive electronic market will be created in the region," said Abbasov.The Minister said firstly a united administrative structure must be established for realizing the project. All interested countries must participate in the development of the united strategy for the creation of network and for the regulation of tariffs. According to the researches of the consulting company Booz & Co, currently the penetration of broadband-communications in the region is only five percent.

Azerbaijan is the most ambitious country of the project, after realization of which 99% of Internet- users will have an access to the world network.

Booz of & Co considers that it is necessary to put large investments in the development of infrastructure, which in the future will serve the increase in the information traffic. The project on construction of the Trans-national Eurasian high-speed information line was supported by the United Nations Global Alliance for ICT and Development, Regional Commonwealth in the field of Communications, TAE Association, such countries as Russia, Slovenia, Estonia, Belarus, the USA and other.

Baku declaration will be passed as a result of the ministerial meeting dedicated to the establishment of the Trans-national Eurasian high-speed information line.
