Uzbekistan, Tashkent, 1 December / corr Trend T. Jukov / The general Internet capacity in the country will make up 515 Mbit/s by the end of 2008, Trend special correspondent in Tashkent said.
Uzbektelecom JSC will continue to establish additional international communication channels to help neighboring countries of Central Asia in next year. Jamol Maksudov, first deputy head of the company, said in Tashkent. Realization of large-scale on providing transit for international networks is already underway.
"Recently, we have achieved the high-speed access at the level of fiber-optic cable with Tajikistan," Maksudov said. "The work is underway in the section bordering with Afghanistan. Next year construction of a new independent line in Russian direction is under consideration. Different fiber-optic communication lines are established using high technology for providing safe and smooth connection".
According to Uzbektelecom, transport circle of Tashkent communication network was established in the base of DWDM equipment production of Chinese company Huawei Technologies Co. Modernization of Trans-Asia and European fiber-optic communication lines (TAE) in Tashkent-Bacharach region was held in the equipment base of Nokia Siemens Network. Extension of fiber-optic communication lines in local telephone network makes up 1245, 5 km and it goes up to 41, 6,000 km in international, inter-city and inter-area networks.
Access to Internet and data communications network is realized through separate lines using xDSL, RadioEthernet technologies and dial-up. Uzbektelecom has already commenced to implementation of WiMax project.
Uzbektelecom is the major telecommunication operator of Uzbekistan covering the whole territory of the country with network. The company is the major supplier of telecommunication services for state structures and departments. The company includes 19 branches, 14 is regional, five specialized and two daughter enterprises. Uzbektelecom possesses stocks in eight joint companies offering mobile and fixed communication services, data communications and Internet.
