Delta Telecom to purchase WiMAX Rev-e mobile network in Azerbaijan

The Azerbaijani telecommunication company Delta Telecom will operate the WiMAX Rev-e mobile network for the first time in February, Delta Telecom Genera Dirctor Ramazan Valiyev said.

"Currently we carry out technical work, create infrastructure and lay cables. This is very expensive project," Valiyev added.

Initially the network will cover Baku, Sumgayit and the Absheron Peninsula. The system will further cover other big regions of the country.

The network's total power is 4.4 gigabit, while all Internet providers use of only 1.4-gigabit.

The project is being realized on the basis of agreement between the Delta Telecom with the French Alcatel-Lucent. The system will also offer VoIP and other DATA-services. Delta Telecom will play an important role as a distributor of the system.

The project cost is estimated at 30 million euros.

Under the contract,the Alcatel-Lucent supports the introducing of the WiMAX mobile network and also supports Delta Telecom to upgrade the national communication infrastructure.

Delta Telecom belongs to the largest Internet Backbone network in the region. Backbone's platform is based on modern technologies and offers professional IP Backbone services to all Internet providers in Azerbaijan and over 78 percent providers in Georgia. The DWDM Delta Telecom covers all regional centres and international outputs.
