The Azerbaijani Communications Ministry is accepting proposals from foreign companies to launch the country's first telecommunications satellite in early March.

"Applications will be accepted until March 4. Four proposals are needed to hold the tender," the ministry said.

Earlier, the ministry submitted an invitation to 6 foreign companies to compete.

The ministry did not disclose the number of companies that have already submitted proposals due to confidentiality issues.

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has already allocated two planned orbital positions that enable broadcasting within the country. A 20-year leasing agreement was signed.

Last year, the ministry signed a cooperation agreement with the Turkish company Turksat to use its orbital position for the satellite.

The cost of launching the AzerSpace communications satellite is estimated at $200 million.
