Azerbaijan, Baku, Nov. 13 / Trend , H.Valiyev/
The Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences' National Seismological Center (NSC) has finished the installation of seismic stations in the Mingachevir, Saatli, Gazakh and Lerik regions, NSC Deputy Director General Azay Rzayev told Trend today.
Rzaeva said communication channels with the country's main station in Baku are likely to be allocated soon. The equipment was purchased from the U.S. company Kinemetrics. Delta Telecom provided the corporate network.
There are seismic stations in 14 regions of Azerbaijan. The head station is located in Baku at the academy, and regularly receives information from vibration sensors installed in seismically active territories of the country via satellite. After processing the data, the system displays information about the exact location of the earthquake, its strength and time.
The NSC plans to install nine more stations in 2010-2011, Rzayev said. The proposals were submitted to the Azerbaijani Cabinet of Ministers and after adopting a budget, conditions will be defined to further implement the project. The stations will be placed in the Ordubad, Sharur, Gabala, Gobustan, Astara regions and in other areas. Each station costs roughly $200,000.
