Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 3 / Trend H.Valiyev /
Today, new internet addresses' containing the letters of the Azerbaijani alphabet is not a relevant issue for the country, Deputy Communications and Information Technologies Minister Elmir Valizadeh said.
According to him, realization of the project is technically feasible.
New domain in the Azerbaijani language will largely determine the new strategic directions for the development of the national Internet segment.
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has approved the introduction of the non-Latin domain names. The ICANN board has considered the proposed plan at the ICANN conference held in Seoul on Oct. 27-30.
The introduction of non-Latin domain names means that beginning from 2010 national languages, including Azerbaijani language with all their mere ABC-specific character, will be used not only in content, but also in the address of Web-resources.
After the introduction of the first users will be able to get a domain name, in which the entire line will consist of the national alphabet characters. This process will be available in all countries and in all territories, where the official language uses an alphabet different from the Latin (extended). The use of national languages in all their mere ABC-specific character, not only in content but also in the address of Web-resources, contributes to a more convenient and comfortable connection with the Internet population of those states and regions for which these languages are native.
