Azerbaijani mobile operator announces 3G network services

Video telephony, conference calls, data services, and GPS will be available for Azerfon mobile network operator subscribers after the introduction of 3G services in Azerbaijan, Corporate Product Development Manager Hasan Asgarov said during the first national Internet forum yesterday.

He added that e-commerce services will be offered to Azerfon subscribers in the future.

"Regarding the rates for services provided on the basis of 3G standard, they will be democratic," Asgerov said.

Azerfon officially announced having received a license to provide 3G services two days ago.

The subscribers will need to change their SIM card to use the services.

The company have already launched testing works, which will end in the coming weeks. By the end of the year 3G services will be available for subscribers.

The services will initially be available in Baku, the Absheron Peninsula and Nakhichivan Autonomous Republic. The company plans to extend 3G coverage to other regions next year.

The company has rented a 2,100 MHz frequency to deploy the 3G network.

Azerfon launched commercial activities March 21, 2007.
