The Uzbek State Unitary Enterprise "Center of radio communication, radio broadcasting and television" continues to introduce terrestrial digital TV broadcasting in Uzbekistan in standard of DVB-T.
The organization plans to install additional three digital TV transmitters in Tashkent city in 2010.
It is also planned to expand digital broadcasting through introducing and launching pilot digital broadcasting transmitters in Samarkand, Andijan, Kashkadarya regions and Karakalpakstan.
Uzbekistan has begun introducing terrestrial digital TV broadcasting in 2008 through launching pilot areas in Tashkent and Bukhara cities. Japan's NEC and Germany's Rohde & Schwarz supplied equipment to the zone.
In September 2008, the country launched experimental zone broadcasting of 10 television programs of public and commercial TV channels in digital format MPEG-4/DVB-T in Tashkent and Bukhara. The Japanese NEC and German Rode & Schwarz supplied the necessary equipment worth about $2 million. Conditional subscriber access was provided by IRDETO. Audience was able to view 12 TV channels, including four public and popular foreign channels. In 2010, the number of the television channels increased to 36 in Tashkent.
Use of digital distribution of public television and radio programs significantly reduce the television and radio companies' expenditures for the distribution of the signal with an increase in the number of distributed programs and improve their quality. This will create additional opportunities for the organization of regional channels broadcasting. The population of the Uzbek distant regions will be able to access to additional channels.
Based on the concept of the country's transition to digital broadcasting, it is planned to apply the first production line of digital tuners in Tashkent. Manufacturing line tuners will be launched and run on the basis of JSC Koinot (Cosmos, Tashkent), specializing in the development, design and manufacture of advanced electronic products intended for use in communication systems and telecommunications.
Initially, it is expected to launch the first line of production, which will produce about 100,000 digital consoles per year.
The complete transition to digital television broadcasting in Uzbekistan is planned for 2015 or even earlier.
The Uzbek State Unitary Enterprise Center of radio broadcasting and television is part of the national broadcasting company of Uzbekistan. The company is the main fund holder of production, supply facilities, transmission equipment, buildings and engineering structures the center.
The company's main objectives are to provide the country's television and radio organizations with technical, technological, service and other services for the production and preparation television and radio programs, including with the use of satellite systems, mobile TV and radio stations, the introduction of modern information TV and radio, computer and media technologies in production process.
