IT Ministry receives proposals on creation of techno-parks in line with new legislation

The Azerbaijani Ministry of Information Technologies and Communication jointly with Booz-Allen-Hamilton consultant company updated proposals on creating technological parks in Azerbaijan, said Ali Abbasov, IT and Communication Minister.

Proposals developed earlier jointly with the consultant company were updated and adjusted to new legislation. Azerbaijan, in particular, adopted a law on special economic zones, Abbasov added.

Though there was not a relevant legislation earlier to realize the proposals, after the approval of the new law necessary condition were provided to organize technological parks.

"Technological parks are created as part of project on establishment of regional innovation zones (RIZ) in the country (РИЗ). Though we and the consultant company designed and presented proposals, there was not enough legislative base on for it. Legislation about special economic zones, which was adopted recently, enables to organize technological parks, [...] and even special zones," Abbasov added.

The project envisages establishing technology parks for small and medium innovative businesses, creating a regional base for the production and export of electronic hardware and software, turning the country into a transit information center, training and human resource development for the information society and introducing information technologies in different industries.

According to the forecasts of the ministry, with the success implementation of the project, the growth in revenues from projects on the RIZ in 2020 will reach $12 billion.
