The Regional Commonwealth of Communications (RCC) adopted a declaration on cooperation to build an information society last week. As a member state, Azerbaijan also signed the resolution titled, "Building an Information Society - Our Common Priority."

The document identifies strategic goals and objectives in the CIS to build an information society. The declaration was adopted at the second meeting of a high-level RCC working group that focuses on building an information society in Moscow on Aug. 17.

The Azerbaijani Communications and IT Ministry represented the country at the meeting.

Participants made lengthy presentations on information and communications technologies (ICT) indicators in the RCC and also discussed the benchmarks of the World Summit on an Information Society, as well as how to improve ICT development indicators.

At the meeting, participants also endorsed a report developed jointly with an RCC commission working on economics issues, as well as a regional monitoring draft. The documents help to create a clear picture of prospects for establishing an information society, the RCC told Trend.

Moscow also hosted the meeting of an RCC commission on information on Aug. 17-18, which reviewed draft amendments and additions to the CIS cooperation strategy.
