The merging policy is not typical for Samsung, Communications Technology Department Marketing Manager at Samsung Electronics CIS Ilya Fedotov told Trend, commenting on rumors about Samsung Electronics' purchase of Nokia.

Fedotov said Samsung Electronics has never made billion-dollar-investments in acquisitions, as have Nokia, Google or Microsoft.

"The main area of Samsung Electronics' activity is to develop own technologies," he said. "Huge funds will be required to purchase the Nokia. It is unjustified."

He said that 2011 was a turning point for the mobile segment of Samsung Electronics. Its foundations were laid last year by producing smartphones of the new generation.

"At present, we compete with Nokia among the global players," he said. "As opposed to Nokia, the mass and budget segments are stable. I think this year we have a real chance to take a leading position in the industry through a wide portfolio."

At present, the smartphone market rapidly develops. Samsung Electronics managed to be a leader. "This balanced growth will enable to take the first place in this segment in the world," he said.
