Nokia Siemens Networks representative: LTE network to be launched in Azerbaijan in near future

The Long Term Evolution network (LTE) will soon be commercially launched in the Azerbaijani telecommunication market, head of Nokia Siemens Networks regional representation in Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkmenistan, Christoph Beck said at the first LTE workshop in Baku on Tuesday.

The Long Term Evolution network (LTE) will soon be commercially launched in the Azerbaijani telecommunication market, head of Nokia Siemens Networks regional representation in Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkmenistan, Christoph Beck said at the first LTE workshop in Baku on Tuesday.

Beck said mobile communication is becoming a powerful tool in Azerbaijan's business development community.

"We have great expectations from the fourth-generation of technology. We believe that Azerbaijan and Georgia will become the first countries in the region in which LTE technology will be launched", Beck said.

He said the rapid growth of LTE technology is expected in the coming years. Its development, according to Beck, began in 2010. Today 21 networks are in worldwide commercial operation, 10 of which are built based on Nokia Siemens Networks solutions.

Eighty-one networks are expected to be in commercial operation by late 2012.
Beck said substantial investments have been made in the sector of information and communication technologies' development in Azerbaijan in recent years.
Azerbaijani president called the ICT sector development a priority in Azerbaijan.

"There are a lot of projects in Azerbaijan, which also include the creation of an 'electronic government', introducing electronic signatures", which require an appropriate infrastructure for implementation, Beck said.
