Azerbaijan presents first 3G mobile education project (PHOTO)

On Sept. 22-23, Azerfon - the mobile communication operator which takes part at the international symposium for Applied Mechanics and Modern Information Technologies in Baku presented its first mobile project in Azerbaijan, the company's press release says.

This international symposium is held with the organizational efforts of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Education, the National Aviation Academy, the Odlar Yurdu University, the Suleyman Demirel University and the German Karlsruhe Technology Institute and the support of Azerfon mobile communication operator.

Speaking at the event, the Minister of Communication and Information Technologies Mr. Ali Abbasov, the Rector of the National Aviation Academy Mr. Arif Pashayev and the Rector of the Odlar University Mr. Ahmad Valiyev have stressed the importance of the development of modern information technologies in our country and the significant of education and science. The Memorandum on the Mobile Education Project has been signed between Azerfon Company and the Odlar Yurdu University at the symposium.

Following the signature of the Memorandum, CEO of Azerfon mobile communication operator Jurgen Pitz stressed that the project of mobile education is a new event in the development of the contemporary education in Azerbaijan.

"Being the first 3G operator of Azerbaijan, Azerfon Company has directed the latest mobile technologies for the social development and particularly, the modernization of education in the country. The modern education and teaching cannot exist without swift data exchange. Starting from 2009, Azerfon is providing successfully its broadband mobile internet services on the basis of 3G technology. Today, Over 200,000 persons benefit constantly from broadband data exchange services of Azerfon. The Memorandum signed today lays the foundations of mobile education practice for the first time at the Odlar Yurdu University of Azerbaijan," Pitz stressed.

The international symposium was held at the Odlar Yurdu University and the National Aviation Academy with broad participation of scholars from prestigious educational institutions of Europe and US. During the symposium, the interesting presentations have been delivered on the application of the modern information technologies in science and other fields of the society as well as innovations and development prospective of this field.
