Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has called for the further expansion of cellular telephone services during a joint business forum, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported on Friday.

"Turkmenistan aims to study and implement best international practices in this area," Berdimuhamedov said, inviting Turkish experts interested in joint work to participate in mutually beneficial technology projects.

He said large-scale projects related to the introduction of communication technologies have been implemented in this field.

It was reported earlier that the state-owned telecommunications company Turkmentelekom is studying proposals from Cisco, Alcatel, Juniper and other companies to introduce high-quality TV and broadband Internet access.

Turkmenistan plans with the help of the French Thales Alenia Space to launch its first national satellite in August 2014.

Thales will also provide assistance to around the clock management of satellite for 15 years, and prepare qualified professionals.

This is the region's first satellite to be launched by Turkmenistan which will make a significant breakthrough in the field of telecommunications, communications and other applications (Internet, mobile communication).
