The tariff for the registration of websites in the national domain zone ".az" is formed based on the costs of the registry for the maintenance of technical infrastructure and technical personnel, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies of Azerbaijan told Trend, commenting on the possibility of regulating the registration tariff .
The source said that comparing the cost of registering the national domain and the foreign domains such as ".com", ".net", ".org" and others, it should be taken into account that the number of users of these domains is estimated at millions, which bring huge funds, part of which is invested in technical support of infrastructure.
"Comparing the tariffs of foreign domains with the domain ".az", one should take into the account user needs and expenses for maintaining the IT infrastructure. As you know, the content in the database of one registration, several thousand or millions actually requires the same technical capability and infrastructure. Therefore, the cost of the ".az" domain on the domestic market is formed on the basis of the operating costs, personnel and infrastructure, "the ministry said.
The national ".az" domain zone officially began operating on August 25, 1993. The cost of registering the ".az" domain is 20 manats, the annual cost of technical support is also 20 manats. The cost of annual registration of .com, .net, .org domains starts from $8 and more.
Currently, the number of registered sites in the national domain exceeds 28,000 thousand units.
The campaign, according to which free registration of sites is offered in the national domain ".az" is valid until December 30. At registration only annual maintenance is paid, which costs AZN 20.
