By Huseyn Valiyev – Trend:

Azerbaijan may need about 500 million manats for construction of a research reactor, the National Nuclear Research Center CJSC told Trend.

Given the resource intensity of the construction project, the work in this direction may be delayed, according to the center.

“Our working group, in cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), is already preparing the necessary documents for the project,” the center said. “The work in this direction will be continued in 2018.”

Proposals will be submitted to the Azerbaijani government for consideration, and a special commission will be formed in the government to study and prepare concrete proposals on the project. At present, the center’s efforts are aimed at training the staff.

Earlier, the National Nuclear Research Center CJSC said the implementation of the project will depend on whether the center receives state financing or not. The contractor to be engaged in the construction of the research reactor will be selected on a tender basis. A 15-hectare land plot in the Gobu settlement of the Absheron district (20 kilometers from Baku) has been allocated for construction of the research reactor.
