By Huseyn Valiyev – Trend:

Azerbaijan’s state communications operator, Baku Telephone Communications LLC, has expanded its coverage with broadband access using the Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) technology, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies said in a message.

The infrastructure created by the operator will allow connecting about 30,000 households to broadband services, according to the ministry.

Currently, GPON technology’s benefits are already used by about 5,000 households, says the message.

GPON technology is relevant for the expansion of broadband Internet, which allows providing the end user with access to the Internet at a speed up to 100 Mbps.

The technology allows the operator to provide Triple-Play (Internet, telephony and IP-TV) services via fiber-optic cable, and high speed data transfer – to watch high-definition TV (HDTV).
