Aztelekom Ltd., the state communications operator of Azerbaijan, is developing a strategy to expand the coverage of fixed wireless broadband internet services based on LTE technology in the regions, the company told Trend.

According to the company, the LTE network will cover mainly hard-to-reach settlements.

"We can not say that a particular region will be covered by LTE network. However, the primary task is to deploy a wireless broadband access network in those settlements, where it is difficult to lay the cable. These are mainly high-mountain areas," according to the company.

Aztelekom Ltd launched the commercial sale of fixed wireless broadband internet services based on LTE technology in May, 2018. The commercial fixed wireless broadband internet service has been placed in the Khachmaz district.

Within the broadband access development project in the Khachmaz district, the operator replaced the TDM telephone exchanges with more modern MSAN telephone exchanges. The rural old automatic telephone exchanges are being transferred to the NGN standard.

Following the upgrade, it is planned to move to GPON technology that will allow the operator to bring the optical line to the subscribers' houses and increase the internet access speed to 100 megabits and more.

This, in turn, will allow to simultaneously provide the subscriber three services (internet, telephony and TV).
