By Huseyn Veliyev - Trend:

E-commerce turnover in Azerbaijan reached 880 million manats in January-August 2018, a source in the country’s e-commerce market told Trend.

The source noted that over the past three years, Azerbaijan’s e-commerce market has grown about three times.

“This is a clear example that e-commerce is in demand among the population, mainly among young people,” the source noted. “Banks, many of which accept electronic payments, are also showing great interest in e-commerce.”

Since the beginning of the year, 265 million non-cash transactions to pay for various types of e-services have been carried out in Azerbaijan. Presently, electronic payments are becoming widespread among the population. In accordance with official statistics, if in 2009, the penetration level of electronic payments in Azerbaijan was only two percent, presently, this figure has reached 37 percent.

“All these are prerequisites for the growth of e-commerce,” said the source. “The necessary infrastructure for the development of e-commerce has been created in Azerbaijan. The country has created an infrastructure of e-signature, “cloud” technologies, and a data processing center has been involved. The Azerbaijani state has a great merit in this.”
