Baktelecom LLC, a telecommunications operator in Baku, has signed a contract with Nokia to purchase equipment to expand the coverage of broadband services based on GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network), the company told Trend on Dec. 5.

The company noted that its future plans for 2019 include the expansion of LTE coverage, as well as the development of IPTV services.

The infrastructure created by the operator allows to connect about 30,000 households to broadband services in the first stage.

In the second phase of the project, it is planned to create an infrastructure for connecting approximately 100,000 households to GPON.

GPON is relevant for expanding broadband internet services and allows end users to access the internet at speeds up to 100 Mbit/s.

At the same time, Baktelecom is introducing LTE wireless technologies.
