The fixed broadband Internet service in Georgia, like in previous years, is characterized by a steadily growing trend both in the number of subscribers and the income, the Georgian National Communications Commission told Trend.

According to the commission, optical technology is developing, and the number of the subscribers is increasing. Moreover, the broadband Internet services market in Tbilisi is almost saturated, and the number of fixed-broadband subscribers is growing in regional cities and villages, where optical technologies become available.

The commission noted three large companies represented on the Georgian market including Magticom, Silknet and Akhali Kselebi Group.

“MagtiCom acquired the second largest fixed-line operator, Caucasus Online, in 2016, and another fixed-line operator, DeltaCom, later that year. Thus, MagtiCom became the first largest operator of a nationwide fixed-line network. Currently, MagtiCom provides comprehensive telecommunications services including fixed and mobile telephony and Internet services, as well as satellite communications and IPTV, ” said the commission.

As reported, Silknet provides a full range of electronic communications services throughout the country, alongside mobile and fixed telephony services, mobile and fixed Internet, and IPTV services using fiber optic cable or DSL technology. Silknet is the largest operator of fixed broadband infrastructure providing both xDSL and fiber optic Internet access, where optical technology is gradually replacing copper lines.

“Akhali Kselebi Group is one of the largest providers of fixed network, offering services of fixed telephony, Internet (both xDSL and optical fiber), IPTV and IP-telephony,” the Georgian National Communications Commission added.
